Happy Winter Solstice!

Happy Winter Solstice!

Today we celebrate the Winter Solstice, marking the official first day of Winter. It is the time where days are shorter and nights are longer- a symbolic metaphor for the transition from light into darkness and the subconscious. The darkness that comes with winter time is recognized across many cultures as a symbol of rebirth since through the dark comes the light.

Winter solstice is the perfect time to look deeply at small things, to feel at home in the world and to be just where you belong. This duality of quiet reflection and Holiday festivities means that it’s a time to slow down and focus on relationships. It is a time of gathering with those we care about and conveying love to family, friends, and associates. Even though it's one of the oldest holiday celebrations, the rituals around it have remained the same: Spend time with your family, observe the changes in nature, and reflect on what's happened in the past year.

Winter solstice also signals the transitions of the elemental energies of Water (which was welcomed by Fall Equinox) to Earth. The Earth element represents nature, beauty, stability, growth, strength, abundance and prosperity. Representing the qualities of Mother Nature, Earth is the first foundation from which all things spring. From its rich and fertile substance it brings forth life, and sustains all life through its bounty. Earth stands for manifestation, completion and the fruit of thought, activity and dreaming.
